Habitat for Humanity is a Christian ministry founded in Americas Georgia in 1976 by Millard Fuller with the mission of eliminating poverty housing. From this modest beginning, Habitat has grown into a world-wide organization and ranks amont the Top 20 builders in the world.
The lack of affordable housing is a critical need throughout the United States and the rest of the world. Recent estimates indicate that more than 15 million Americans need subsidized housing because of their age, income status or disabilities, but only about 4.3 million have access to it.
Central South Carolina (CSC) Habitat for Humanity was established in 1985 with responsibility for Richland and Lexington counties. In our area of responsibility it is estimated that 1 of every 4 families lives in poverty.
CSC Habitat For Humanity is one of more than 30 Habitat affiliates in South Carolina. Habitat affiliates are chartered by Habitat for Humanity International; each affiliate has it's own board of directors and is responsible for it's own funding and operations.
